Student Wellbeing in Primary

In 2024, the Primary introduced the Friendology Program (UR Strong), and it has been embraced enthusiastically by both staff and students. This program helps students understand that all friendships are unique and teaches them how to navigate challenges, including handling a "friendship fire." Having these skills explicitly taught and practised in the classroom has empowered our MCC Ninjas in the playground, ensuring that every student feels a sense of belonging and that recess and lunch remain positive and inclusive experiences.

Friendology, combined with our behaviour management approach using 1-2-3 Magic, helps create a calm, friendly, and supportive learning environment. 1-2-3 Magic provides clear structure and boundaries, ensuring consistency and clarity for all students. It also supports students in managing their emotions and, when needed, allows them to feel understood and guided through emotional coaching. Together, these programs contribute to a school culture where students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.

The wellbeing of all members of our community is a top priority. While everyone is responsible for their own wellbeing, the Primary is committed to fostering a culture that protects, promotes, and supports it. Ensuring clarity of expectations, fair treatment, strong support systems, recognition and rewards, and positive relationships, is essential to daily wellbeing.

Beyond everyday practices, building a strong sense of community through our many events throughout the year is just as important. These events not only create fun and connection but also contribute to overall wellbeing. A highlight of each term is our Wellbeing Week—a time with no homework or meetings, where small activities and events are planned each day to promote balance and joy. This is a week eagerly anticipated by students, parents, and staff alike, reinforcing our commitment to a happy and supportive school environment.

We are incredibly fortunate to have such fun and supportive priests at Our Lady’s Assumption Parish. Together, we strive to bring God’s word to the children in a way that is meaningful and relevant. Through the example of the Holy Family, students connect with our core values of Peace, Hope, Learning, Faith, and Love. Each term, the Primary school travels to the Parish to gather in God’s house and celebrate Mass as a community. Our priests are also a regular presence at school, visiting classrooms and engaging with students—especially when there’s a sporting game on! Their warmth, energy, and commitment help strengthen the bond between school and parish, enriching the faith life of our community.
