MCC Staff Member Attends World Youth Day 2023
A Reflection from World Youth Day 2023
This is the future of our Catholic Church. Over 1.5 million pilgrims congregated at Campo da Graça in Lisbon, Portugal, to partake in the final Mass led by our Holy Father. This profound moment, marked by unity and devotion, was an unforgettable experience, affirming the global reach and vibrancy of our Catholic community.
My personal experience during World Youth Day has been an eventful one. One of the most significant highlights was sharing this transformative experience with my younger brother, Mark Ajero. Observing the eagerness of young individuals coming together from different parts of the world to celebrate our faith collectively has been truly a blessing. Our pilgrimage was shared alongside with Catholic Youth Ministry of Perth and other Australian pilgrims, making for a week of unforgettable moments.
Another notable highlight was the chance to explore the vibrant city of Lisbon, adorned with an array of churches that grace nearly every street corner. I was in awe of the architectural designs of these structures which featured the vitality of the Catholic Church. In addition, these sacred spaces showcased a collection of revered relics of notable key figures such as St John Paul II, St Thomas Aquinas, St Mary Magdalene, St Joan of Arc, and our Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati.
For me, the most treasured aspect of this World Youth Day journey was undoubtedly the opportunity to connect with diverse young people from across the world and share these transformative moments together. I am forever grateful and truly blessed to have had these experiences.
In this moment of reflection, I extend my gratitude to my Parish and the College community for their unwavering support, guiding my brother and I on this journey of faith and pilgrimage. Anticipating the upcoming World Youth Day scheduled for 2027, set to take place in Seoul, South Korea!
