Student Devices

At Mandurah Catholic College, we understand technology's pivotal role in modern education. It has seamlessly integrated into our classrooms and connects our students to the wider world. By embracing technology, we empower our students to navigate the dynamic, tech-driven global community that awaits them in the years ahead.

Over the past months we have been reviewing the issues of control, cyber safety and cost of student devices. The primary purpose of devices is for education, and we are aware of the many distractions that disrupt their learning journey.

After consultation with the College’s ILT department, input from a cyber safety expert, and approval from Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA), we have decided to transition to a College Managed Device (CMD) strategy. The aim of the CMD strategy is to create, and encourage, a culture of device use that is focused on students’ education.

In the current digital environment, there will be important advantages over the BYOD policy.

  • Students will not have access to software or apps that are distracting, dangerous or inappropriate.

  • The College will be better able to monitor and control student safety online.

  • Each device will be configured as an educational tool for class and home with apps and software downloaded.

  • Every student will be using the same technology which will be kept up to date by the College.

  • Parents and the College will have control.

  • The students will benefit from fewer online distractions.

A staggered approach will be used to implement the new strategy, with students entering Year 4 and Year 7 in 2025 being the first to transition.
